What’s New on Netflix for September?


Every month, Netflix updates it catalog of titles that are available for streaming. New on Netflix: Thrillers

These are some of the scarier movies that showed up in our Netflix suggestions this month.

“Rage” (2014)

Starring Nicholas Cage and Danny Glover, this fast paced action movie tells the story of a former gang member that scores big and leaves his life of organized crime behind to start a reputable business. In the process, he becomes a devoted husband and father. When his daughter is kidnapped, he has to convince his former gang members to help him find her and seek retribution. A final poignant plot twist as the film comes to a close makes this movie more than your average “shoot ’em up” crime flick.

“All is Lost” (2013)

This film stars Robert Redford as an experienced sailor who is lost at sea after his boat suffers a catastrophic collision with a shipping container. This movie shows how truly vast, powerful and cruel the ocean can be as Redford’s character struggles to survive various hardships and difficulties as a tropical storm closes in on his wounded ship. Viewers will be glued to their seats until the final scene to see if Redford’s character will somehow survive against all the odds.


Classified as a documentary, “Who is Dayani Cristal”(2013), is an interesting, thought provoking, and mysterious thriller set in the Arizona desert. The movie opens with the discovery of a body that is tattooed with the name, Dayani Cristal. Viewers are then treated to a series of flashbacks that further deepen the mystery as they try to discover who this man was and how his body wound up in the desert.

Romantic Dramas

“Silver Linings Playbook” (2012)

This quirky romance stars Bradley Cooper, Jennifer Lawrence, and Robert De Niro. The film’s funny and lighthearted moments propel viewers through this drama that deals with obsession, letting go, and being open to love. The movie is available for streaming beginning September 16th.

Blast From the Past Comedy

Classic comedies are always fun!

“Bill and Ted’s Excellent Adventure” (1989)

“Party on Dudes!” This movie stars Keanu Reeves and Alex Winter as Ted and Bill. Whether or not you caught it the first time around, it’s a “most excellent idea” to sit back and enjoy watching this “righteous” duo travel back in time and gather first hand knowledge to complete their history term paper!

Family Classics

Many of us can trace our love of tree houses and the dream of living on our own deserted island back to this classic movie from 1960, “The Swiss Family Robinson.” Whether you want to enjoy a trip down memory lane, or share this childhood delight with children of your own, don’t miss this heartwarming adventure tale that features a shipwreck, pirates, and budding child tiger tamer Francis.

Disney’s 1997 remake of “Flubber,” starring the late Robin Williams, is also a classic you will not want your family to miss! The movie follows the trials and triumphs of an awkward and forgetful scientist that saves the day at his Alma mater with his latest invention.

New on Netflix:TV Shows

Netflix has also added new TV shows to their lineup, as well as adding new seasons and episodes to existing TV Shows already in their lineup. The following are popular choices you won’t want to miss!


This show follows the exploits of Detective Chief Inspector Tom Mathias, who has recently left the London Met seeking solace in a small town and the moody landscape of the Welsh countryside. Complications arise as he works to solve a series of unexpected hate crimes.

“The Blacklist”

The entire first season of NBC crime/spy thriller hit starring James Spader, The Blacklist, is now streaming on Netflix. If you’ve not seen the show, now’s the time to watch, as the second season starts on NBC on September 22, so viewers have just enough time to get caught up!

“The Walking Dead”

The fourth season of this hit AMC dystopian show featuring a small band of survivors in a world overrun with zombies starts streaming on Netflix on September 28th. With four seasons available for streaming, it’s the perfect show to binge watch before season five begins on October 12th on AMC.

“Doomsday Preppers”

Whether you are searching for tips to help you get prepared just in case, or view a reality show about preparing for disasters as a concept that’s ripe for entertainment and laughs, the first three seasons are now available for streaming on Netflix.

“Chasing UFOs”

Whether you’re a sci-fi fan, skeptic, or true believer, you will be happy to know that the entire first season of National Geographic’s investigation into potential alien sightings and mysterious flying objects is streaming now on Netflix!
