It’s that time again. You just got a new TV, Blu-Ray or stereo but now your remote doesn’t work for it. That is because you need to do some Charter remote programming. If you have the C4000 or OCAP-4 then you are in the right place.

Find the Charter Remote Programming Code

We will start you off with the difficult part, finding the code for the item you are programming. Go to this page on the Charter website and use the drop down box to get a list of codes for your items manufacturer. Make sure that you write all the codes down because you will need them shortly.

If you can’t find your manufacturer don’t worry, we will also cover that later under the heading Programming Without a Code.

Programming with a Code

Now that you have your code, you get to program it in.

  1. Turn on the device
  2. On the remote press the corresponding device key (AUX, DVD, TV, CBL or STB) and it should blink.
  3. Press and hold the SETUP key until you see the corresponding device key blink twice.
  4. Enter the first five-digit code you had for your device and the device key should blink twice. IF the light only does one long blink then you entered something wrong and need to start again.
  5. Point the remote at the device and press PWR, if the device turns off then you have successfully programmed it. If the item does not turn off then return to step 2 and enter the next code.

If you have entered all of your codes and it still doesn’t work then move on to the section titled Programming Without a Code.

Programming Without a Code

If you can’t find a code for your device or the codes you had just don’t work, then this is where you need to be. We will tell you how to make the remote scan through a huge list of pre-programmed codes to find one that works for your device. As the remote searches it will send codes to your device, starting with the most common codes first.

  1. Turn on the device
  2. On the remote press the corresponding device key (AUX, DVD, TV, CBL or STB) and it should blink.
  3. Press and hold the SETUP key until you see the corresponding device key blink twice.
  4. Enter the code 9-9-1 using the keypad and your device key should blink twice
  5. Enter the corresponding code below for the device you wish to program and the device key should again blink twice.
  • 0 – Cable Box
  • 1 – TV
  • 2 – DVD/Blu Ray/VCR
  • 3 – Audio
  1. Aim the remote at the device and press PWR once
  2. While still aiming at the device press the CH+ key, continue to press the CH+ key with a brief pause between, until the device shuts off.
  3. Press the PWR key and your device should turn back on, if it does then press the SETUP button to lock in the code.

Recording the Searched Code

Sometimes it can take a long time to search for a code, which is why it’s a good idea to write the code down. These simple steps let you figure out what code the remote recorded so you can easily set it up next time.

  1. On the remote press the corresponding device key (AUX, DVD, TV, CBL or STB) and it should blink.
  2. Press and hold the SETUP key until you see the corresponding device key blink twice.
  3. Enter the code 9-9-0 using the keypad and your device key should blink twice
  4. To view the first digit in your code press the number 1 on your keypad and count the number of times the device key blinks, then write down the number.
  5. Continue to record the blinks for each number position in the code 2, 3, 4, and 5 then store it in a safe place.
