New TV Shows on Netflix Coming Soon

With the summer months officially upon us, that means our regular favorites on the networks are likely done until September or so, which means turning to Netflix and other streaming sites for new entertainment is a great idea.

This animated Netflix Original is scheduled to be available for streaming beginning on August 22.

The plot centers around a whiskey drinking movie star of a once popular ’90s sitcom that retired from acting too early. Now, he has to figure out what to do with the rest of his life. To further complicate matters, the actor is half-man and half-horse. He still resides in Los Angeles, where humans, animals and mixtures of the two all happily coexist. The show’s script is written for adults rather than children, so viewer discretion is advised.

Returning New TV Shows on Netflix

Are you a fan of the Netflix Original Orange is the New Black? Have you spent months wondering who won the jailhouse fight in the last scene of the last episode of Season One? Your wait is over! Finally, you and other viewers get to learn what repercussions Piper and the other inmates face now that the series’ second season has begun. Fans of the show will also rejoice to learn that once they finish streaming all of Season Two’s episodes, a third season of the show has already been confirmed and is in the works.

Season Two of another Netflix Original, Hemlock Grove, begins July 11. This season promises to be even more frightening, dark and mysterious than the first, based on the show’s new trailer. If you have not seen the first season, you have just enough time to watch all of its episodes before the second season starts.

Speaking of second seasons, the second season of the Netflix exclusive Derek, became available for streaming on Netflix on May 30. This is a heartwarming series that centers around the life of a professional caregiver in a nursing home. The show is at times humorous, touching and sad and is perfect for lovers of poignant dramas.

The second season of A&E’s modern day crime solving cowboy sheriff, Longmire, also returned to Netflix May 26. The show is not a stereotypical western or crime drama, as many scenes focus on the relationships between the sheriff and his daughter, best friend, deputies, and various members of the community.

A third season of Netflix Original Lilyhammer was confirmed for 2014 earlier this year, but an exact release date remains unknown. The show’s second season was released in December of 2013, so it’s not unrealistic to expect a similar release date for this popular series. If you have not seen the first two seasons, you should still have time to catch up. The plot of the show follows the escapades of a former mobster who enters the witness protection program and relocates to Lilyhammer, Norway. At times the show is dark, irreverent and humorous, and can be considered a dark, dramatic comedy.

If you are looking for laughs, and a good dose of outlandish humor, the second season of the IFC’s sketch comedy and talk show farce, Comedy Bang Bang! becomes available June 20.

Season Two of the BBC’s Victorian-era detective crime show, Copper, which is set in 1860s New York City, becomes available June 22. The third season of another BBC import, Sherlock, became available June 2. This version of the popular detective is set in modern times and stars Benedict Cumberbatch. Season Three of a third cerebral and suspenseful BBC detective series, Luther, became available June 6.

Fans of A&E’s canceled show, The Glades, will be happy to know that the Season Four finally became available on Netflix on June 3.

Season Five of Canadian family drama Heartland will be available June 17. The series follows the story of a young woman who must cope with the unexpected death of her mother while trying to help her grandfather save their horse farm.

Additional TV Shows that become available on Netflix in June include Season Four of Pretty Little Liars on June 13, Season Seven of Toddlers & Tiaras on June 14, Season 1.5 of Turbo FAST on June 27, and Season Three of Wilfred on June 17.

New TV Shows on Netflix Expected For Late 2014-15

Ten episodes of Netflix Original Narcos have been ordered, with the original show expected to begin airing on Netflix in 2015. The show follows the story of infamous Colombian drug lord Pablo Escobar and the DEA agent who hunted him. Wagner Moura, the Brazilian actor from Elysium, has been signed to play the title role of Escobar and Pedro Pascal of Game of Thrones fame will play a Mexican DEA agent, Javier Pena, that sought to capture and kill him.

A fourth and final season of The Killing will be exclusive to Netflix, and has been promised for 2014. An exact release date has not been set for this show either. With six planned episodes, it’s hoped that the detectives on the show, as well as fans, will finally get some closure to the dark murders and tense moments of this crime drama.

Sense8 is a new Netflix Original from the well-known creative team of Andy and Lana Wachowski. Little is known about the plot or cast for the show, except that part of the plot revolves around at least eight different people who suddenly develop a special power, and how it affects their lives and the lives of those around them. Ten episodes have been ordered, and at the first of the year, it was expected the show would be released late in 2014.

The third and fourth seasons of DreamWorks Dragons have been ordered, and they will be released exclusively to Netflix beginning in early 2015. The first two seasons have aired on Cartoon Network, and the plot follows along the story line of the popular film, How to Train Your Dragon, released in 2010. Currently, there are not any plans to air the first two seasons of the animated series on Netflix. There is a second film that will be released on June 13, based on the original movie.

A third season of the wildly successful political thriller, House of Cards, starring Kevin Spacey. has been confirmed. The planned release date for the new season will be early in 2015.
