Three years after the release of their iPhone app, Verizon has finally launched a FiOS TV app for Android devices. The new app will allow Verizon FiOS TV subscribers to watch live TV on their phones or tablets and it will give them access to video on-demand.
Even better, this smartphone application will allow you to manage your DVR or even pay your bills. With this new app, users can also access voice mail and call logs. If you are a FiOS subscriber then this is one app that you can not live without.
The company has said that “most” Android devices will be able to run the new FiOS TV app. According to Verizon any device running Android 2.3.3 should be able to run the application, this would include devices such as the Samsung Galaxy S4, Galaxy 10, Droid Razr M and the Moto Droid X.
The New ‘My Fios’ App
The new My FiOS app is available to download, for free, on Google Play. Once the FiOS TV app is installed on your device, you will be able to watch live TV from over 75 networks. You can also watch content from HBO, TNT, Disney and the NFL Network and almost anything else within your cable package. You will also be able to watch over 1,500 premium on-demand titles from Starz and Encore.
The new app also makes searching for the remote control a thing of the past, because it turns your device into a virtual remote control with a scrollable program guide. The app also allows you to manage your DVR while you are away from home, using the same great features you already know and love. This way you will never miss an episode of your favorite show, no matter where you are.
For Your Viewing Pleasure
FiOS users have access to more than 40,000 movies and TV titles, which are available for rent or purchase from the FiOS Flex View Library. This is perfect if you are traveling or just happen to be out of the house. Children can be easily entertained while you are waiting for the doctor or standing in line.
The one downfall of this new app is that the live TV function of the new FiOS TV app only works when you are in your home and connected to your WiFi network. This has caused some grumbling from early users of the app. If they are already in their home, the argument goes, why would they need to watch TV on their mobile device?
The reasoning behind this, according to Verizon, is so that there will no longer be fights over what to watch. The new Android live TV function will let multiple people watch live TV at the same time in the same room. So you can now keep track of the hockey game (Go ‘Hawks!) while watching a movie with your friends. Or it allows you to watch what you want while hanging with your children as they watch yet another episode of “My Little Pony” or “Ninjago.” (If you don’t have kids, then you have no clue what it’s like being subjected to the same show over and over again.)
Another great feature of the “My Fios” application is the ability to monitor and control your home from anywhere you get an Internet signal. If you have Verizon’s Home Monitoring and Control, you can easily control the many features of your Smart Home.
While on vacation, this handy app will let you turn on the lights, adjust the thermostat or even unlock the door to let the maid in. You can even use your smartphone app to check out the video to see what your teens are doing when you’re not home.
If you get the My FiOS App and your having problems then you can use the built in help feature with enhanced speech recognition. You simply type or speak your question and the app will give you support information and tools that match your Verizon services. If it still doesn’t provide what you need you will be connected to live help desk operators that will walk you through your issues.
While it has taken some time to come to Android, the new FiOS app is perfect for those who want entertainment on the go. Interested, but don’t know what FiOS is then check out Searching for Verizon FiOS Availability.
