What Happened to Brinks Home Security System?

Brinks Home Security Systems

One of the biggest concerns for homeowners is the threat of a home invasion or burglary. A Home Security system is one of the most important investments you can make in protecting your property and providing your family with some peace of mind. Until a couple of years ago, the Brinks Home Security System was a viable, reputable option for many people looking to keep themselves and their loved ones safe.

In 2009, however, it was rebranded as Broadview Security, which was then purchased by Tyco International, and subsequently merged with ADT Security Services. While Brinks Home Security is now technically defunct, Broadview is still an option for many consumers through ADT.

Brinks Home Security is Now Broadview

One of the best features of the Broadview Security System is the comprehensive home monitoring system. While it acts as a burglar alarm, it also monitors for fire and smoke, carbon monoxide, floods, and drastic temperature fluctuations. Whenever the alarm is set off, a trained ADT employee will then deliver the appropriate emergency response to your home, whether it be the police, the fire dept., or an ambulance.

The Broadview Security System includes 24/7 monitoring, so regardless of the time of day or occasion, your home stays protected. Broadview also has remote capabilities, with the ability to trigger the alarm using the Internet or your mobile phone; lighting and thermostat control; and a remote door locking system. Broadview also offers live and motion capture video recording, so in the event of a break-in, the events are recorded to aid law enforcement agencies or prosecutors, as well as scare off any intruders who would otherwise threaten your household.

FrontPoint Security

While Broadview offers a lot of services, it is not your only option. One alternative you might prefer is FrontPoint Security, which compares their Interactive Monitoring service and offering to ADT’s Family Package, and actually comes out on top in pricing and features.

For example, FrontPoint’s Ultimate Monitoring plan (at $49.99 a month) includes home automation, fully fledged with mobile light and heat control, door locking, wireless video, geo services, security alerts, a customizable system, and 24/7 monitoring at $8 less per month than ADT’s most comprehensive package (with the same features), and at the same price point as ADT’s medium package.

If you’ve decided that neither Broadview or FrontPoint are for you, there are still more security options for you to choose from. One other reputable Home Security provider is Lifeshield, which has packages ranging from $29.99 to $40.99 per month, tailored to the customer’s needs (Lifeshield has a Gold Package, Value Package, Platinum Plus Package and Business Package).

Like Broadview and FrontPoint, Lifeshield also offers 24/7 monitoring, except this time through a partnership with Protection 1, one of the “largest providers of professional alarm monitoring services” throughout the country.

Lifeshield also makes it a point to compare their offering to those of their competitors at their price point, actually beating out FrontPoint Security in terms of features to price.

Do-It-Yourself Home Security

Paying a monthly fee for Home Security can be a burden for some households, and to address this, there are hundreds of resources online available for people who wish to create their own personal security system, with plans and tutorials created by individuals who have performed their own installations on their homes rather than hire an outside firm. A DIY security system can be a great opportunity for those handy with tools to get creative and develop a personalized, interactive system.

One of the best parts about these DIY systems is that they can be as simple or complicated as the creator wants: options range from a simple alarm to an advanced system that not only monitors, but controls other parts of the house as well. Keep in mind, creating a system yourself does take some technical skill and research, and is a project that requires time and focus. However, in the end, it can be an immensely satisfying experience, which the whole family can participate in creating.

For many people, the chance of a home invasion, robbery, and vandalism is too high to go on without getting a robust security system for their house. A Home Security system, regardless of whether you go for a service from an external provider, or make a DIY version, is a solid investment that will save you money in home repairs and item loss.

While the Brinks Home Security System has been absorbed by ADT, there are plenty of alternatives, like FrontPoint and Lifeshield, that will work for you and your family.
