Netflix’s second season of “Orange is the New Black,” will do battle against Amazon’s “Transparent” as they were both named in Thursday’s 2015 Golden Globes nominations. They’ll face off in the strangely named category of “Best TV Series, Musical or Comedy.”
Netflix and the Golden Globes aren’t new partners, as the streaming service earned six nominations for three shows in 2013, for “House of Cards,” “Orange is the New Black” and “Arrested Development.” This is the first year, however, that an Amazon TV show was nominated for a Golden Globe.
Netflix followed up its breakout last season with seven more Golden Globe nominations this year, including more nominations for “House of Cards” and “Orange is the New Black.” But they also got a Best Performance nomination for Ricky Gervais in the eponymous “Derek.”
Amazon’s “Transparent” was nominated for best series, as well as having Jeffrey Tambor nominated for Best Actor in a Musical or Comedy.
