Earlier this year, we published an article that contained the release dates for Netflix’s new original shows for 2015. In the article, we promised to follow up once release dates for additional new Netflix original series were available. So, we’re back with Part II of our original article. Now you have the latest news on when you can expect your favorite shows and new series to debut later this year – so mark your calendars and get set to enjoy some original Netflix shows!
Netflix Original Specials and Documentaries
Fans of Ricky Gervais will be happy to learn that everyone’s favorite retirement home attendant, Derek Noakes, is back for a one hour special entitled “Derek,” which becomes available April 3rd!
Original documentary, “What Happened, Miss Simone?” debuts June 26. The film chronicles the life and music of ‘the high priestess of soul,’ Nina Simone.
The six part original food series, “Chef’s Table,” debuts on April 26th. The documentary gives an insider’s look into the kitchen and lives of 6 of the most famous international chefs, including Magnus Nilsson and Niki Nakayama.
Grab your friends and get ready to laugh! Netflix is bringing three original stand up comedy specials to streaming this year. Performing comedians include: “Chris D’Elia: Incorrigible,” which releases April 17, “Jen Kirkman: I’m Gonna Die Alone (And I Feel Fine),” on May 22nd, and “Chris Tucker Live,” which releases July 10th.
The first eight episodes of “Wet Hot American Summer” release on July 17th. It’s an original comedy that serves as a prequel to the 2001 movie of the same name. Most of the original cast from the film has returned for Season 1, so if you enjoyed the movie you won’t want to miss this series!
Netflix Original Series: Dramas
Set in a world where everyone over the age of 21 has died from a mysterious and deadly disease, “Between,” debuts on May 21st.
The long awaited third season of everyone’s favorite women’s prison drama, “Orange is the New Black,” releases on June 12th.
Original Science Fiction
The first season of “Sense 8″ releases on June 5th. It is the long anticipated original science fiction drama created by Andy and Lana Wachowski of the Matrix Trilogy. In this series, eight individuals from different races and cultures around the world suddenly become linked together and know what each is feeling and experiencing after the mysterious death of a stranger. One powerful man and his organization become determined to find and either capture or kill each of them, before they can meet together in person, while another seeks to bring them together. The show is expected to show the possibilities of what these new powers might mean for the world while also exploring themes such hatred, greed and bigotry and what it means to be human. The show will be available in Ultra HD 4K, as are the original series “Bloodline,”which released on March 20th, and “Marvel’s Daredevil,” which releases on April 10th.
“Crouching Tiger: The Green Destiny,” becomes available for streaming on Netflix as well as in select IMAX theaters on August 28th. The movie will be available in Ultra HD 4K as well. This sequel stars Michelle Yeoh, Donnie Yen and the legendary sword, of course in another tale of love, lust, and treachery as well as a last chance for redemption for those daring enough to attempt it!
New Netflix Original Series for Children
Parents will be happy to learn that Netflix is adding to it’s already extensive catalog of original programs created specifically for children!
The first season of an updated version of “Inspector Gadget” became available March 27th.
“Super 4” is a new CGI animated series, the first season releases on April 1. Characters are based on Playmobile Toys and include Agent Gene, Alex the Knight, Ruby the Pirate, and Twinkle the Fairy. The friends have fun battling and defeating bad guys as they explore their world.
“Dragons” and “DinoTrux” are still expected later this summer, and we’ll keep you posted once the exact release date is announced. Likewise new series “Bottersnikes and Grumbles” and “Care Bears and Cousins”will release sometime in 2016 and we’ll get back with you once more information is available.
Additional Release Dates for Late 2015 and 2016
Watch for a third installment of this article later this year once release dates are announced for each additional new Netflix original series. The fourth season of the western crime show, “Longmire“ is still expected for later in 2015 as cast and crew began filming the show at the end of March. Narcos is also still expected later this year, but an actual date remains unknown.
Additional series expected before the end of 2015 include “Ever After High,” “F is for Family,”and “Some Assembly Required.” Additional seasons for shows are also expected later in 2015 and include: “Bojack Horseman,” “Fargo,” “Hemlock Grove” and “Knights of Sedonia.”
2016 is also slated for the release of several new original series including: “The Crown,” “Flaked,” “Jadotville,” “Love” and “OA” as well as remakes of children’s classic series “Danger Mouse” and “The Magic Schoolbus.” So check back with us frequently for updated news on release dates and new original series that will be coming to Netflix soon!
