A few years ago, if you wanted to watch free movies online, you had to go to some not-so-legal websites. Now, the exercise has become a little safer. The web is full of free video sites, and the number of free streaming sites seems to be growing every day. I won’t be able to tell you about all the sites that are out there that allow you to watch movies online for free, but I’ll tell you about the ones I’ve found and enjoyed the most.
Watch Free Movies Online with Viewster
Viewster, for me, has been one of the most enjoyable free viewing experiences going. They have a pretty good-sized collection of movies, including foreign films, first runs, and a few older movies, as well. As you can see from the image above, I like horror films. Viewster has a great selection of these, as well as kids movies and family films.
The quality of the videos they have is good, whether you watch in the browser window or you watch full-screen.
With Viewster, you have three options:
- Watch free movies online, and have a couple of 2-5 minute commercial breaks during the film (I call them bathroom and popcorn breaks, personally).
- Pay a small fee (about $8.50) and you can buy it and watch online, commercial-free.
- You can pay an even smaller fee (about $3) and you can rent it for 48 hours, commercial-free.
Watch Free Movies Online at OnlineWatchMovies
For those that want to watch classic movies, OnlineWatchMovies is perfect. They have a huge selection of older Hollywood movies. By older, I mean dating as far back as the ’30s. Want to watch some old Humphrey Bogart or Boris Karloff classics? Well, this is the site for you then.
You can also watch many foreign films here. There’s no account required and the video streaming is good. I didn’t notice any jerkiness or buffering when I watched “Southern Comfort” (from 1981).
You can watch free movies online on this site in Hindi, Bangali Punjabi, and Gujarati, just to name a few of the languages that are available.
However, if you have kids, you’ll need to be careful, because the site does have adult films, as well, although you have to specifically go into that section to watch them. Also, for those with kids, they have a whole section devoted to just movies for children. This site has the largest selection of movies from around the world that I’ve ever seen. I was impressed with the video quality of some of the older movies that I previewed. They were excellent (for their age) in both the page window and full-screen.
FullMovies: Hollywood at Your Fingertips
FullMovies is another excellent site where, once you pay a one-time fee, you can watch free movies online. The site guarantees itself as 100% legal, and that your single payment subscription will get you unlimited access to all of the movies they have available.
And this site has a pretty huge collection. They have a ticker across the top of the page that shows some of the movies that you can watch. I saw movies my parents would love, movies from the Fifties and Sixties, and movies I’d love to see: horror movies, shoot ‘em ups, and cool looking sci-fi thrillers. This is a site that has something for everyone.
Amazon Instant Video: Kinda Free
Amazon Instant Video is another one of those sites that’s not completely free, but, for a $79 annual fee, it’s the next best thing. As a part of the Amazon family of sites, you can be sure that their support staff is helpful and friendly. If you’re already a member of Amazon Prime, with your Kindle or Kindle Fire, you’re already a member of Amazon Instant Video and you can watch free movies online.
The selection at Amazon rivals the monthly subscription sites, with older movies (E.T. anyone?), as well as newer movies (I’m going to watch Prometheus tonight). So you’re never going to be at a loss as to what to watch. With this site, you have such a large selection that it’s going to be difficult to decide what to watch.
Years ago, there were literally hundreds of sites that you could go to in order to watch free movies online at. However, most of them were showing the movies illegally. The ones that are left have contracts with the studios, and they normally pay for the movies they stream by placing ads on their pages. Rest assured though, that none of the ads will interfere with your movie watching experience if you go full-screen, and honestly, who’s going to want to watch free movies online in a small 3-inch by 4-inch box on a web page?
